Rotation 2. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO, October 24, 2007 – March 19, 2008, no cat.
Another of the pioneers of American photography, Whipple entered the field in Boston as a photographic chemist. He turned to the camera in 1841, and quickly established a reputation for superb and innovative work. This rare "mammoth" format daguerreotype-twice the size of a standard whole-plate image-is a fine example of his work in this difficult format.
