DescriptionImage of figures rowing in a boat amid a calm body of water.Gallery LabelSpecializing in college photography, Gustavus Pach’s images (like the two seen here) were often included in the school’s yearbook. One image from the 1880 Yale College Yearbook records Yale’s championship crew team. The coxswain (steersman of the boat) was Mun Yew Chung, an exchange student from China. Many years later,Chung was remembered as “a bright student who never lost his temper and who was never known to swear, except on one occasion…the race with Harvard in 1880. Toward the finish, the little coxswain broke out with ‘Damn it boys, pull!’”
