Very little is known about Dr. Albert Benedict. A resident of Montclair, New Jersey, Benedict was an amateur photographer working within the Pictorialist aesthetic. His work was often awarded prizes in the amateur photography competitions from 1900 to 1915. In his view of divers, seen here, Benedict employs the muted focus of Pictorialism while celebrating a prototypically modern subject: divers setting footings that will later support a new suspension bridge.
