In this distant view of the ruins of Luxor, Egypt, Greene emphasizes the seemingly endless expanse of sky and sand. The majestic ruins and lone palm tree occupy a mere fraction of the pictorial space. The result is a poetic comment on the smallness of man's works in the face of nature and eternity.
