Laura Gilpin, who studied at the Clarence White School between 1916 and 1918, was dedicated to the craft of photography, using platinum paper long after American firms ceased producing it commercially. Upon her return to her native Colorado in 1918, she recorded many spectacular landscapes in the American Southwest, including the Grand Canyon, Canyon de Chelly and Bryce Canyon, as well at the regions’ indigenous cultures. This stunning print demonstrates her talent for harmoniously balancing form and tone.
