DescriptionImage of the corner of an industrial building with a ladder affixed to the facade; a pile of dirt in a landscape island is in the parking lot.Gallery LabelThe minimal geometry and cool impartiality of industrial architecture in southern California provided Lewis Baltz with a rich conceptual subject during the early 1970s. He photographed the anonymous structures to emphasize the elegant sterility of the architecture, often showing only the facades of the buildings, and excluding human figures. This aesthetic approach renders the subjects as both mysterious and cold. They are mass- produced structures that bear no outside hint of what goes on behind their featureless exteriors.
