DescriptionAbstract image composed of several curved objects, cropped, that appear in the top corners and lower left. A shadow is cast near the center of the frame.Gallery LabelMargaret Watkins created this harmonious arrangement of simple forms, textures, light, and shadow from everyday items—a plate, breadboard, and piece of fabric inside her kitchen sink. Watkins wrote about how everyday, mass-produced objects “revealed an unguessed dignity” through photography, and that one “unconsciously responds to the clarity of statement achieved by stressing the essential form.”
Made in the kitchen of her New York City apartment, Design––Curves is a domestic still life created by an independent woman who spent her days working, teaching, learning, and making.
