In this photograph, the rippled surface of water appears to both reflect and be dissolved by light. The graininess of this image is the result of its enlargement from a 35 mm negative. This effect creates further confusion to the eye, imparting a sense of mystery to the mundane.
Harold Harvey worked in illustration, commercial photography, and photographic chemistry. His personal photographs reflect the influence of the European avant-garde aesthetic, which encouraged a new sense of experimentation and discovery.
