DescriptionImage taken from the Eiffel Tower, iron framework in the foreground, looking down onto tree-lined paths filled with pedestrians.Gallery LabelThe dizzying perspective and bold geometric forms of this photograph suggest the joy of visual discovery and the powerful energies of the machine age.
In the mid-1920s, the portable, handheld Leica camera, which used 35mm film, became widely available. Bing was one of the first artistic photographers to take up the format seriously, earning her the nickname “Queen of the Leica.” Bing made brilliant use of the small camera’s capacity for recording subjects spontaneously. She created her most memorable pictures after she moved from Berlin to Paris in 1929.
