DescriptionImage of woman in bathing suit (at night) standing next to the statue of a nude woman in a body of water.Gallery LabelModel Margaret Minnigerode stands at the edge of a pool as though lost in thought, her body turned away from Louise Dahl-Wolfe’s camera. Brightly lit by a car’s headlights, Minnigerode’s exposed back, bent arms, slightly bent knee, and updo echo the out-of-focus statue of a bathing Venus (the Roman goddess of love and beauty) located on the other side of the pool. This photograph was featured in the June 1939 issue of Harper’s Bazaar. Dahl-Wolfe worked for the magazine for more than 20 years, revolutionizing fashion photography with her images of effortlessly chic women photographed outside of the studio.
