Under the guidance of his father Edward, Brett Weston became an accomplished photographer by 1925, at the age of only 14. He turned his starkly modernist vision on a variety of contemporary subjects, including, in 1936, this gleaming automobile. By playing the sleekly engineered lines of the new car against the visual effects of reflection and transparency, Weston underscored the natural sympathy between a purist use of the camera and the hard-edged functionality of modern machine culture.
