This image is part of a 1934 series of bluntly direct images of wealthy vacationers on the promenade in Nice, France. In addition to its implicit commentary on the lazy luxury of the rich, this image reveals Lisette Model’s fascination with the awkward physicality of the human body. Originally trained in music, Model turned to photography after moving to Paris in the early 1930s.
