From the age of seven, Lartigue made candid, playful photographs of his family, friends, and everyday upper-middle class Parisian life. Part of the first generation to grow up with reasonably affordable cameras designed for amateur use, Lartigue saved his charming photographs in albums for decades until they were later enlarged for a 1963 exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art and reproduced for a broad audience.
