Joseph Jacha’s 1961 thesis at the Institute of Design was a study of water. Fascinated by water’s ability to modulate light and inspire
poetic reflection, Jachna believed it could provide a “link between the real and unreal.” His dark and moody waterscapes—as seen here in this work from 1970—encapsulate that sensibility: as abstractions of light and liquid, they are at once simple and mysterious.
