DescriptionImage of a young child in a stroller with an open-mouth smile. A woman leans into the stroller, her face obscured.Gallery LabelSubmerged in the depths of a baby stroller, the woman in Helen Levitt’s photograph seems as though she could disappear inside of it entirely. Her child’s laughter echoes our own amusement at the chaotic contortion. A lifelong New Yorker, Levitt found tenderness and humor in the endlessly unfolding theater of the street, photographing the uninhibited play and joy of the city’s children.
