The Irish expatriate writer James Joyce (1882-1941) is best known for his challenging avant-garde works Ulysses (1922) and Finnegan's Wake (1939). While he spent most of his adult life in Paris and other European cities, Joyce's lasting subject was his home town of Dublin.
