DescriptionImage of door with vertical ridges and black "10" painted on the upper right. Harsh diagonal shadows appear along the left edge.Exhibition HistoryRotation 25. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO, October 19, 2018- March 17, 2019, no cat.
The sharp, spare geometry of this image turns an everyday subject into a visual puzzle. Aaron Siskind made this photograph while spending time in the fishing village of Gloucester, Massachusetts. This period marked a shift in Siskind’s work, away from social documentation and toward abstraction.
