DescriptionImage of figure seen though a restaurant window with tables in the foreground. The figure stands in profile with arms outstretched and knees bent.Gallery LabelHenri Cartier-Bresson aimed his camera at a mirror inside a Parisian café. Reflected back were the unfolding events of a prolonged protest. What began as a student demonstration in March 1968 by May had transformed into a massive cultural uprising and workers’ revolt with makeshift barricades in the streets and intense acts of police brutality. Here, Cartier-Bresson captures the precise moment when a young protestor swings his arm backwards to throw a cobblestone toward an unseen target.
