Gallery Label
An international celebrity himself, Steichen had little trouble gaining access to-and developing a warm and sympathetic friendship with-some of the greatest modern artists of the era. Edward Steichen deeply admired Brancusi's sculpture as well as his austere, almost monk-like devotion to his work. This work depicts the sculptor in his cold, cramped studio, posed with some of his most iconic works.
