Rosalind Solomon took up photography at the age of 38, after working for nearly two decades in Europe and the American South for the Experiment in International Living. In 1974, she met and began studying with Lisette Model, a photographer who had also been an influence on Diane Arbus. Since the mid-1970s, she has traveled extensively throughout the United States, Latin America, South America, India and elsewhere. Her work is consistently bold and visceral: her close vantage points and use of a 2-1/4 x 2-1/4-inch square camera format combine to create a sense of both energy and claustrophobia.
