DescriptionImage of a child's christening dress against a deep black background. Tiny ruffles accent the neck, sleeves, and hem of the white dress.Gallery Label

In this one-of-a-kind image, a child’s dress hovers between definition and disappearance.

Adam Fuss uses the antiquated medium of the daguerreotype, tapping into its historical associations as a form of portraiture aligned with memorialization and loss. Viewers must negotiate their own reflections as they discern the image itself. This intimate, personal viewing experience prompts us to contemplate our own understanding of reality and transcendence.
