DescriptionImage of a restaurant where every non-living thing (tables, chairs, windows, chandelier, bread in the baskets etc.) is a shade of gray. In the back corner two people are being served by a waiter as bright red foxes scamper around the room.Exhibition History

Sandy Skoglund creates room-size installations to photograph. Here, she constructs a familiar interior space—a restaurant dining room. The three people, two diners and a waiter, appear oblivious to the action around them. Twenty-three red foxes disrupt this ordinary scene, leaping and frolicking, playing, pouncing, and hunting. The foxes are not misbehaving; they exhibit behaviors consistent with wild animals. Skoglund pushes the boundaries of what is perceived as “natural,” reminding the viewer that humans are also animals.
