F. Holland Day turned his full attention to photography in the late 1890s. An outspoken supporter of the medium’s artistic potential, he used the camera solely for poetic expression. As seen in this work, Day often made reference to classical, mythological, or sacred subjects. Here, he uses a soft-focus lens to record a semi-clad male model in a highly idealized, timeless setting.
