Gallery LabelThis print, with the portrait elaborately framed and with coat of arms, resembles the Masson print hanging nearby. The sitter was Duchess of Savoy, an independent kingdom between Italy and France with its capital in Turin. Savoy was very much subject to French influence, hence the duchess' French-style costume and hairdo. However, the meticulous recording of her features also recalls Dutch portraiture of the time.
