Italian views were a favorite of the etching revivalists, as in this example of the famous medieval bridge in Florence. The close-up view omits any surrounding context and forces us to concentrate on the pattern of solids and voids, walls and windows. Notice the bold strokes on the buttress and on the arch, which convey a sense of strength.
