DescriptionVertical format watercolor in blue, yellow, red-orange, green, brown, and gray washes with black ink sketch providing linear structure. The composition is architectural with loosely sketched human figures occupying multi-tiered spaces. The subject simultaneously recalls a circus, a ship deck and mast, and a theatrical stage. The top figure wears a striped shirt and balances on a tightrope. Three figures perform acrobatics on additional tension lines. Three figures stand on the ground line. The color sections allude to cloth swags and drapery hung from wires and scaffolding.
