NOTES:
[1] According to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Cloisters Library and Archive, Brummer Gallery Records, Babylonian, Object inventory card number P673, Brummer Gallery acquired this bowl at a Sotheby’s, London sale in July 1923. The only Sotheby’s antiquities sale during this month was the posthumous sale of Randolph Humphrey Berens’ diverse collection, including numerous vases and bowls of similar size and material to this one. The sale catalogue, however, is not illustrated, nor are the lot descriptions specific enough to determine in which lot this bowl was sold.
