DescriptionA continuous print-out of an extended roll of frames shot by the artist from a car window while driving on the highway in Iowa. The various subjects include overpass bridges, passing cars, and fields of corn and wheat.Gallery LabelUnrolled, this photograph measures 108 feet long. It is composed of almost 250 individual images combined on a single strip of industrially produced photograph paper originally intended for the bulk printing of individual 3 x 5 in. snapshot photographs.
Reed Estabrook chose these long rolls to print photographs he made from his car window as he drove across the United States on Interstate 80. According to Estabrook, the series is an “exploration of what the scale of the continent really is and how we, humankind collectively, function in our uneasy relationship with its frail surface.”
