DescriptionThe object is a semi-circular-shaped piece of limestone. The front surface is carved with images of a demon, or possibly a god, mask in the center with phoenixes on either side of the mask. No trace of original pigments is seen on the surface, but there are some spots of greenish-blue paint or pigment in the one area where a cleaning test has been done.ProvenancePurchased through Laurence Sickman by The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO, 1934.
