DescriptionSquare bottle, wheel thrown and formed wtih paddles to make square shape. Paddles also left marks of diagonal striations. Glazed wtih carbon-trapped whitish glaze. Two small lobes are on the shoulder of the bottle at diagonally opposite corners.Gallery LabelSimple, elegant forms characterize the ceramics of Warren MacKenzie, one of the most well-known functional potters working today. He explains: "The craft of pottery is dependent upon the physical contact of the observer and in handling...the sensuous, tactile qualities of clay and glaze." Originally from Kansas City, MacKenzie has been a practicing potter and teacher in Minneapolis since the early 1960s. He believes that everyone should be able to afford and own well-made objects, such as this bottle, an example of a strong silhouette enhanced by a rich, translucent glaze..
