NOTES:
[1] Marie-Louise Bastin, Introduction aux Arts de l’Afrique Noire (Arnouville, France: Arts d’Afrique Noire, 1984), 386-87, 418, (repro.). Raoul Lehuard founded the journal Arts d’Afrique Noire in 1972 and frequently contributed his own writings on African art. Lehuard inherited a collection of African objects from his father Robert Lehuard (1902-1983), who collected them in Congo in the 1920s and 1930s, but it is unclear if Raoul Lehuard inherited this figure from his father or acquired it personally by other means.
