DescriptionCircular shape, the tureen with gilt cherry stock handles, the cover with cherry knop also gilt, painted in puce mamaieu with neoclassical river scenes, within floral festoons hung from ribbons and a stick on which are perched birds, surrounded by further floral festoons alternating with insects.Exhibition History

Although only Sèvres could use gilding on porcelain, the Saint-Clement manufactory got around that restriction on this soup bowl by making it with faience. Painted birds land on gilded branches in an illusionistic, lavish effect.
