Gallery LabelMarsyas was a satyr who challenged the god Apollo to a musical contest. He lost and was flayed alive by the god for presuming to challenge him. Here Marsyas is shown tied to a tree prior to his punishment, while a vengeful-looking Apollo with his lyre is seated to the right. The Master of Die is an anonymous artist, so called because he signs his works with a small dice, to be seen in the lower right corner.
