Wu Hufan’s traditional painting style was influenced by his collection of historic Chinese paintings. In the inscription, Wu expresses the pleasure of imitating earlier painters from the Song (960–1279) and Yuan (1279–1368) dynasties. His tall, narrow mountain scene composition and short, relaxed brushwork draw from prototypes invented by Song painters.
