Gallery Label
The contrast set up in this drawing between a group of trees and a distant panorama provides picturesque variety, a quality much favored by 17th-century Europeans. In the foreground, weary travelers are shown resting, while two other figures approach to the right, one of them carrying a basket on her head in a skillful balancing act. Behind her, a church tower rises above a wood.
