Gallery LabelSir Muirhead Bone was one of the best-known British etchers, and here he shows the celebrated novelist Joseph Conrad (1857–1924). Conrad looks uncomfortable, as if he cannot wait for the sitting to be over. The sitter’s head, the location of his genius, is emphasized by the simpler rendering of his suit.
