DescriptionThe sculpture is made of red terra cotta, toned with a grayish wash seen in the indetations. It is a portrait of painter Thomas Hart Benton as a mature man and includes his head and neck, and the casual, open collar of his shirt. It is terminated just beneath the collar. The features, hair, and shirt are somewhat simplified to curving shapes. The eyes are not articulated. The bust is mounted to a black, wooden base which follows the shape of the bottom of the sculpture.
