Gallery LabelThis print of an opera story is one of a pair to be pasted on door panels or hardwood furniture. The play tells of two combating warriors who realize they are long-lost brothers when they pull out identical gold spears, thus ending the play with a happy reunion. The theatrical costumes are meaningful for their military insignia: on the lower figure’s headgear, the two long projections are pheasant feathers worn by an actor on stage to represent the warrior’s bravery.
