The American etcher John Taylor Arms specialized in European subjects, mostly of England and France. He made numerous architectural prints similar to David Young Cameron’s St. Etienne. This early print was made a year after the end of the Great War, in which Italy eventually triumphed over Austria-Hungary. The exhaustion of the period after World War I can perhaps be sensed in this quiet piazza.
