DescriptionThe subject represented is St. John the Evangelist on Patmos, the island of his exile, where he received the divine inspiration for his Gospel. The center of the composition features two seated, robed figures, the older of the two (on the left) being the aged Saint, who dictates to the younger scribe, at the right. The setting is very generally described as a landscape and an island. From a little cloud in the top left corner there emerges a pointing hand, the symbol of divine revelation and the transmission of knowledge.Exhibition HistoryN/A
