[1] This is probably Luigi Orselli, a New York connoisseur and dealer of Italian works of art with whom French and Company often conducted business.

 

[2] Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles, French and Company Stock Sheets, box 39, folder 2 and box 21, folder 1. The stock sheets indicate French and Company sold this object to the American Federation of the Arts on July 26, 1940 and repurchased it from them the same day. The exact nature of this transaction is unclear, but they may have had a joint ownership agreement.
