Gallery LabelDevotional images were owned both by temples and private individuals. These three figures reflect the variety of Buddhist deities and the beliefs associated with them. These beings include bodhisattvas, those who have attained enlightenment but who remain in this world to help others along the same path.
Manjusri, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom, is identified by the scroll in his hand, which denotes learning. He is portrayed as a youth sitting on a rocky outcrop. To his left is an incense burner. The ivory tone of the glaze is typical of the Dehua kilns located in the southern coastal province of Fujian.
