Gallery LabelThe finely preserved medieval town of Bruges was a favorite site for artists, and was seen as a kind of time warp from a bygone age. Today it is thronged with tourists, but a century ago its streets were often silent and quiet, a feeling captured in this print. Perhaps the quiet austerity of his deep shadows is evidence of William Strang’s Scottish heritage.
