DescriptionWhite figure seated on tree stump. Feet and head of goat, main body of man in pants and jacket. Held in proper left hand is a long staff which rests on the ground. On top of the staff is a bird sitting on a wooden perch.Gallery LabelUsing unglazed porcelain, the Alabama sculptor Frank Fleming creates works that appear both realistic and mythological. The fineness and strength of the porcelain allows Fleming to craft believable half goat, half human creatures through exacting attention to detail. By clothing these figures, Fleming helps the viewer to relate to them and confront the dualities of the rational and the irrational sides of human nature. In Hunter of the Pleasured Souls and Sacred Spirits, Fleming connects the supernatural and the living world, creating a haunting beast that both attracts and repels.
