Gallery LabelAn elaborate architectural portal frames this scene of the final supper that Jesus shared with the Apostles before his crucifixion. In this scene, he has just announced that one of his disciples will betray him. Their mental anguish is conveyed in the agitated folds of their robes that overlap and blend together to create a unifying pattern. The culprit, Judas, sits in the right foreground, identified by the money he holds behind his back. The scene at upper left offers a glimpse of the procession to the garden where the betrayal took place after the Last Supper.
