Gallery Label
This subject is taken from the famous Italian Renaissance poem Orlando Furioso by Ludovico Ariosto, an adventure story inspired by medieval romances. The rolling landscape is similar to the one in the drawing by Campagnola exhibited nearby. This is not surprising since Campagnola was a pupil of Titian, after whose composition the present engraving was made.
