Used for offering libations of wine, the gu is one of the most common ritual types. In larger graves up to 50 have been discovered. The base of the container begins at the constricted area just under the midriff, so the actual volume of wine held by the vessel is thus quite small. The elegant trumpet mouth would have been suitable for pouring libations but impossibly messy for direct drinking.
