Gallery LabelRoghman was influenced by the style of Rembrandt and this is apparent here in the rich shadows, which are created by the use of heavy dots in the dark areas. The composition, with the tree balancing the open rising ground, is quite ordered and balanced. The scenery is typical of the rolling country in eastern Holland, but probably does not represent a real place.
