DescriptionInterior of tram, motorman seated right. Four men seated, middle, looking right; second man, left, holding rose. Crossed woman's legs, lower left. Cars on street and walkers on sidewalk visible through streetcar windows.Gallery LabelA native of Oklahoma, Jackson Lee Nesbitt studied at the Kansas City Art Institute under Thomas Hart Benton and John Stockton De Martelly. Nesbitt's Streetcar provides a view of bustling activity in downtown Kansas City. Focusing primarily on the male riders and driver, the composition allows for interesting views out onto the street. Adding an erotic charge to this otherwise banal urban subject, a pair of women's legs appears abruptly cropped at the left-hand side.
