Drawings Collection of Milton McGreevy, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO, March 7-April 4, 1965, no. 31, erroneously as by Roelandt [sic] Savery, as Rocky Valley with Castle.
An Italian Panorama: The Romance of Ruins, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO, July 19, 2017-January 14, 2018, no cat., as Rocky Valley with Castle. This imaginary view may have been inspired by the scenery in the foothills of the Apennines near Rome, where many towns are perched on hills overlooking deep valleys. Dramatic panoramas like this were favorites of Northern artists in Rome, like the anonymous author of this drawing, since they recalled the Alpine scenery they would have seen on their journey south.
